Excerpt from Statues of Abraham Lincoln: Herbert Spencer Houck; Excerpts From Newspapers and Other Sources
Mr. Houck was born in Danville, Montour County, Penna. 13 years after the summer of '63 when the guns roared in the wheatfields of Gettysburg, to the South. Later his father, the late Rev. William A. Houok, took his family to Harris burg, which lies so near the battle field where the tide of war changed against the Confederacy that earthworks were thrown up and the shotgun militia called out the June that found Lee's army base in the North.
